That annoying broke guy

June 17th, 2004 - 4:25pm

For the past week, I have not had any money on me whatsoever. Sure, I have money in the bank — I probably even some lying around at home somewhere — but for the past week I have not carried any money (even small-change) with me.

I’m not quite sure how I’ve managed that. Normally, I somehow manage to spend what seems like $50+ every day, without even wanting to. I try to only take out $20-40 out of the hole-in-the-wall whenever I go, but I’m forever spending more on EFTPOS anyway.

Mooching. That’s probably the best word for what I’ve been doing. I mean, I don’t even recall buying anything on EFTPOS in the past week (I will exclude the weekly shopping from this particular post). Somehow, just somehow, I have managed to become Kramer-like and get people to pay for everything for me.

I got Justine to pay for lunch when we were out over the weekend (actually, it was probably my money anyway, but I won’t let that get in the way of a good bad story) and I’ve made or brought from home lunch or every day instead of buying it. I’d really like to think that this frugality means I will have a lot of disposable income in the bank. I know, however, that it means that I will somehow find a way to spend all this money I’ve been “saving” without even realising it.
