Even though it’s around five months away, we just bought some tickets for the new Cirque du Soleil show, Quidam. The show was pretty much sold out, but since some tickets went on sale this morning, we managed to get some decent tickets anyway.

We will be sitting in the very first row, about 10 seats away from the VIP seats, which cost almost three times as much, so that’s not too bad.

We wanted to see the show which was out last time (a year or three ago) but never managed to catch it. Well, we ain’t letting it out of our grasp this time. Of course, since we (OK, I) am cheap, we’re seeing an afternoon session. Take comefort, however, since by seeing the earlier session, we saved ourselves sixty bucks, which can be used for dinner or crappy souvenirs.

What next? The opera? Ha! Not bloody likely!

Ages ago, I mentioned that we had an ice cream maker. As I foresaw, it does not get a lot of use, except for making sorbets and similar interesting frozen treats. I also posted an image of our freezer chock-full of ice cream a while ago, but I can’t find it to post a link so too bad.

Instead, we have chosen to fill our freezer with 42 Paddle Pops, 10 Mini Calippos and 3 fancy 2-litre tubs of ice cream. 20 of the Paddle Pops were purchased for someone so they don’t necessarily count, but that’s still a lot of ice cream.

It’s no coincidence that the amount of ice cream in our freezer came a couple of days after receiving a leaflet advertising a local Streets factory outlet about 15 minutes away. We’d known of it’s existance but had never stopped by before.

Unfortunately the 16-Paddle-Pops-for-3-bucks deal was no longer available so we had to make do as best we could. 25 bucks and more than eight litres of ice cream later… yeah we did OK.

Our local Coles store has recently decided that they will stock kangaroo meat. What else could I do but buy a few for myself to try them out?

I’ve had kangaroo meat a few times before, so the taste wasn’t particularly new to me. Since I’d never cooked it though, I expected it would take roughly the same time as beef. Nope, it seemed to take quite a bit longer to get it to medium-rare (my desired cooked state) than with a beef steak of similar thickness.

Still, it tasted pretty good and I am interested to see what Coles starts stocking next… Whale? Dog? Crocodile (which I’ve had before, and is quite nice)? Of course, I could go to a “gourmet” butcher (or an asian one in the case of dog) but that’s no fun.

Every now and then, I get really “in” to certain types of foods. A couple of years ago, it was Indian curries; more recently (over winter), I was heavily into making Texas-style chili which was delicious and now it Texas-style pork ribs that I’m hankering often.

I’ve only made them a few times, and the recipes have been pretty simple, but they are ending up quite good. The first time I basically boiled them in a roasting pan in the oven which left them extremely tender, but not quite as tasty as you’d hope. Last night’s though, tasted pretty good even though I’d only given them about two hours roasting away in the oven.

Next to a large serving of ’slaw and chips… Hmm I could go some now.

As I mentioned a week-and-a-half ago, Christmas is rapidly approaching. While looking for something else this afternoon, Justine and I noticed our Christmas tree box and ornaments under the bed.

There was nothing else for it, we now had to put up the tree. So, more than a month out from Christmas, our tree is now up. I’m sure you’re all thrilled to know.

As I’ve talked about numerous times before, I “got” to be the boss for eight weeks. It was an interesting experience and I quite enjoyed it — the (small amount of) extra money was the best part — though I’m not sure how I performed.

Anyway, I’m now back to being a regular peon, sitting back in the trenches. This, however, isn’t necessarily a bad thing; it’s almost like a holiday! I’ve also been quite lucky, since the domain controller down in Warrnambool happened to die over the weekend (well, it seems to have). Since my boss came back today, he’s the one responsible for it, so he had to travel to Warrnambool.

Saved!

This morning I received some… strange spam. It was strange because it wasn’t spam sent to me, but it was a returned email claiming to have been from my domain (the contact address I use for my domain).

So, someone out there (and this particular person is using Compuserve to send out spam) is masquerading as me. Very annoying.

And if anyone out there is visiting this site because they want to contact the administrator/whatever about the spam — it’s not coming from here.

Grrr.
