When we reached Adelaide on our road trip to there and back, we decided to head out to famous Glenelg for a look around.

There we found an area which looked and felt a lot like St Kilda. However there was a large volleyball tournament on that day — finishing up, actually — and as we walked along the beach briefly we watched some of the volleyball in action.

At the time I grabbed a few shots and even though most (much like this one) were a bit blurry, the timing was good and this is definitely my favourite even though technically it might not be as well executed.

The positioning of the two subjects, the ball, the motion, the lighting and the face on the guy hitting the ball all make this into what I think is a pretty good shot. The sky could be nicer, but there’s not a lot I can think of that would improve it (except for the aforementioned technical failings).

Even though Justine asked me not to wade into the water (making the sand stick to my feet when I came out, and getting all over the car) I still walked in just to get this shot.

I think the shot was worth it; the nice colours and reflection in the foreground, and the recognisable but blurry bathing boxes in the background. The shore with the sand inbetween is nice, too.

It took a couple of goes to get this shot to turn out, but I’m pretty happy with the result. I think while we are away I am going to set my camera to sRGB as using Adobe RGB is just too difficult, even with it’s benefit (i.e. much larger range of colours).
