I presume it happened when ytruly.net moved over to DreamHost, since they were hosted together, but I only today noticed that mrhoot.net has disappeared from the Interwebs. As of next Wednesday, the domain’s registration will expire. I’ve been told by sources (OK, it was Dad) that it won’t be renewed.

Given that the last blog post was in October I guess it comes as no surprise it’s owner really couldn’t be bothered with it. As you can see from my sporadic posting history over the last 5 years (yes, it’s really been more than 5 years!), it’s pretty hard to keep posting a blog day-in, day-out.

The other reason mrhoot.net existed was as a photo gallery. Given some of the images that were on there, it’s probably for the best that the gallery is gone. The gallery has now been replaced by mrdehoot’s flickr photostream so if you’re still interested in seeing photos that aren’t of me as a kid (really, I’m not sure why you’d want to), head on over.

Before I sign off, don’t forget to read and comment over at Juzzyweb! Beginning blogging is difficult, but it really helps to know that people are actually reading and interested in what you write. And how could you not be, when the topics of discussion are Bomb Alaska, croissants, crepes and more?

Also, if you ever need some web hosting Dad, just let me know. Maybe we can strike up a deal. Only $50 a month; it’s a good price!

I’ve added a new thingamajig to the right-hand-side menu there. It’s entitled a year ago and has half a dozen posts from around this time last year.

It actually runs from 2 or 3 days after this time last year, and 2 or 3 days before this time last year to give you a snapshot of what we were up to … well, last year!

Let me know what you think.

This morning I received some… strange spam. It was strange because it wasn’t spam sent to me, but it was a returned email claiming to have been from my domain (the contact address I use for my domain).

So, someone out there (and this particular person is using Compuserve to send out spam) is masquerading as me. Very annoying.

And if anyone out there is visiting this site because they want to contact the administrator/whatever about the spam — it’s not coming from here.

Grrr.

Well, I’ve just gone and registered bludger.org for another five years. This will extend the site’s registration until September 2009.

I’d been getting sick of renewing the site each and every year looking around trying to save a few bucks here or there. This time, I thought “stuff it” and just renewed for a big chunk.

So, as the title says, the site is (probably) here to stay. The site will have been running from 2000-2009 by then. Sweet.

After a little bit of playing with PHP this evening, I’ve finally managed to get the server to send email via my current ISP. It’s easy at work because there’s no authentication required and it’s just always been setup to work. At home, it was a little more difficult and after a few hitches (complaints of non-existant domains, and so on), it’s finally working.

The reason I’m writing, and you’re reading this is because I’m wondering whether people would find it useful to receive an email whenever a post’s been made. There’s hardly any registered users here as it is, and I suspect not all of them would make use of such a thing. Obviously, such a feature would require people to register, if they wanted to receive email. As part of the registration I’ve already been asking for the email address (in anticipation for this and other possible features down the track) so I already have your details.

So, is this something the people who visit the site want, or wouldn’t you use it? Email me if you’d prefer.

Hey…

I’ve purchased bludger.org from Namezero, which means it’s my domain (they will host it for the next year or so). Anyway, not too many updates on the main bludger.org page, although mike.bludger.org is receiving more regular updates.

See you all later!

I’d like to welcome two more additions… This time, though, they’re additions to the site (lame? Yeah, I know)!

Anyway, the two new sections are found in the “Critique” menu on the left there. You’ll find film and food fun for fine reading (enough Fs? ;). Basically the two sections contain short reviews on films I’ve seen and restaurants I’ve been to.

Enjoy, I’ll be adding more sections to the site shortly (they’re completed but I feel important if I stagger these new releases :).

In other fun news, I recently purchased the bludger.org domain from Namezero, so it’s now mine (all mine!). Well… Sort of.

Not many animals were harmed in the making of bludger.org, but a lot were eaten. And they were delicious.
I mean, really, really nice. I especially liked the squab, he didn't put up a fight.
