Our first destination was Williamstown. I don’t remember the last time I went there, but it’s certainly a lot nicer than I was expecting. As we arrived, a Remembrance Day ceremony was in progress, so we stood for a few minutes before moving on.
We photographed along the pier, some of the local waterfront area and also around the other side of the point.
Hungry, we retreated into the city and parked near the Forum; we checked out Hosier Lane — and watched a guy mid-spraypainting — before grabbing lunch at Nando’s.
As we left, we headed towards the Botanic Gardens, but just at the Flinders St intersection, we were stopped for a good half hour while a protest rally marched by. We got out of the car and watched the people pass by, taking photos all the while. They were protesting everything under the sun — renewable energy, no more coal, stop drinking milk, and so on.
As the passed, we went the long way round to the Gardens where we walked for a little while.
I had my polarising filter with me today, which I haven’t used in ages. The shot above is one I took using the polariser.

I presume it happened when ytruly.net moved over to DreamHost, since they were hosted together, but I only today noticed that mrhoot.net has disappeared from the Interwebs. As of next Wednesday, the domain’s registration will expire. I’ve been told by sources (OK, it was Dad) that it won’t be renewed.
Given that the last blog post was in October I guess it comes as no surprise it’s owner really couldn’t be bothered with it. As you can see from my sporadic posting history over the last 5 years (yes, it’s really been more than 5 years!), it’s pretty hard to keep posting a blog day-in, day-out.
The other reason mrhoot.net existed was as a photo gallery. Given some of the images that were on there, it’s probably for the best that the gallery is gone. The gallery has now been replaced by mrdehoot’s flickr photostream so if you’re still interested in seeing photos that aren’t of me as a kid (really, I’m not sure why you’d want to), head on over.
Before I sign off, don’t forget to read and comment over at Juzzyweb! Beginning blogging is difficult, but it really helps to know that people are actually reading and interested in what you write. And how could you not be, when the topics of discussion are Bomb Alaska, croissants, crepes and more?
Also, if you ever need some web hosting Dad, just let me know. Maybe we can strike up a deal. Only $50 a month; it’s a good price!

Given that I’m not a Christian, I still have no problem celebrating both Christmas and Easter.
In that vein, yesterday was Easter Sunday. Justine’s Dad’s family came over at around lunch time and we picnicked in our back yard (that’s the most attention our back yard’s seen in 12 months) for lunch.
A bit later, my Dad came over with his shiny new Canon EOS 300d camera, which is pretty fancy indeed. Nice unit, and I’d personally love to have one myself.
Not really much else to speak of, so that’s all I’m going to write.

Dad’s website, Mr Hoot has gone live as of a few days ago. At the moment, it’s just a bog standard gallery of his favourite images, though I suppose it may change in the future as is the case with many a website.
That URI again is www.mrhoot.net. Since when was my Dad tech-savvy enough to have his own domain? Soon my car will have it’s own domain registered. Hmm, looks like the one it wanted is already taken, never mind then.
Everyone should rate this picture as a 5-star picture — let’s make it the most popular on the site!!

So very, very strange. My father bought a digital set-top box along with his new TV. I knew he’d been planning on getting a new TV for ages, but he’s suddenly ahead of my technology-wise!
If we hadn’t subscribed to cable TV back in December, I would’ve already bought one anyway, I suspect. Hopefully Optus will get moving with their digital service; stop dragging your feet. I’m getting left behind!
