That beheading video

Note that some discussion in this post is a bit gruesome, and touches on a topic with which some people may not be comfortable. If you’re one of those people, don’t read it, OK?

I’m a curious person. When I was younger I remember Dad telling me about “snuff” films; I also remember wondering what it’d be like to watch one. Well, since a video of an alleged beheading was released last week (that’s a link to the story, not to the video), I got curious.

There’s a big difference knowing something is really real and fake. As in my other post, I watched Troy last night and saw numerous people getting things poked into them, and other bits chopped off. It didn’t bother me, since I’m a pretty desensitised person.

I downloaded the video anyway. I’m not going to post a link here; if you want it, go and get it yourself, I’d rather not aid you in watching this particular piece of footage. To save myself from being too sick from watching the video (since I didn’t know what to expect), I left the sound off, and only scanned quickly through parts of the video.

Well, the whole thing looks pretty legit. So, I’ve just seen a real-life, innocent man have his head hacked off. My first thought is that it only looked partly real. However, it does not seem that there are any cuts in the tape (again, I scanned through parts so don’t know for sure), nor does there appear to have been any computer effects used. Troy had some pretty good effects and looked quite realistic, though I don’t think this is a fake there is always a good chance it is (besides, it makes the whole thing easier to stomach). The second thing I thought, is that there did not appear to be a lot of blood. Perhaps I wasn’t focusing on where it would come out. No blood was dripping from the decapitated head, either.

I’ve since deleted the video and have no intention of getting it again. I don’t think I’d want to sit down and watch the whole thing, with sound. Once, without sound was enough.
